Problems identified:
- The closure of the plant meant we may face some hostility with the remaining workforce.
- As normal we had a deadline to clear the factory inline with the landlords demands.
- We didn’t know if any machine had been sabotaged before arriving on site as all machines power supplies had been isolated and removed.
- Not one machine was correctly positioned in a transit mode, meaning the delicate CNC heads were vulnerable to the high seas in transit.
Conclusion:
FPA staff and management team, calculated exactly 19 x 40′ GP shipping containers, every container was fully loaded without leaving one item behind. All the machine heads were carefully blocked with wood, and secured with ratchet straps to prevent any movement. Four oversized machines, were crated, all material was built and structured in the UK as kit form, FPA sent over 2 x articulated lorries with all there own equipment and materials needed to complete the project.
FPA calculated the project could be completed in 3 weeks utilising Saturdays as a contingency as and when required, we left the site on the agreed date!
Once in Tennessee the company had no idea how the machines were to be recommissioned back to the original specification, FPA sent over 3 guys for 2 weeks to assist them.
No additional costs were required, the whole operation went better than expected, even the remaining workforce in Germany were helpful and friendly.
